Senior Project Engineer

CW Keller Senior Project Engineers represent the most experienced part of our engineering team. Senior Project Engineers leverage diverse expertise in the development and delivery of project deliverables. Senior Project Engineers are technically adept and production oriented. Engineers in this position perform several complimentary roles within the organization and are expected to work in an advisory role with Project Managers, Lead Engineers, Project Executives and Job Captains throughout the project life cycle.

 

PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drafting: Produce clear, accurate, and consistent documentation (shop drawings) for approval and fabrication.

  • Modeling: Develop comprehensive 3D models, both static and parametric, at fabrication‐level accuracy and tolerances.

  • Communication: Actively communicate with Engineering Team members, Project Management, and Fabrication Job Captains to ensure successful completion of all phases of a project.

  • Convert laser scans to point clouds and surface models.

  • Conduct site visits to perform site surveys, both manual and laser‐scan, and field verification.

  • Actively participate in client and key stakeholder meetings (in person and virtual) alongside Project Management.

  • Accuracy and support continuous improvement and change management.

  • Adhere to and outperform rigourous project timelines.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE

  • Ability to independently manage a discrete project phases in conjunction with Project Management.

  • Mentor Project Engineers in developing their technical and fabrication skills.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • The ideal candidate is well‐versed in digital fabrication and motivated to succeed in a fast‐paced, dynamic environment.

  • A professional degree in Industrial Design, Engineering, Architecture (or a related field) or relevant vocational training and certification.

  • 10+ years of experience in Architectural Fabrication or a related industry.

  • Substantial experience producing highly-detailed shop drawings in a fast paced environment with rigorous deadlines.

  • Advanced knowledge of Rhino 3D.

  • Experience using Grasshopper or Rhinoscript for parametric modeling and automation.

  • Experience programming in Mastercam for 3 and 5 axis machining a plus.

  • Experience with 3 and/or 5 axis machining.

  • Exceptional knowledge of digital fabrication and construction methods.

  • A high degree of self-motivation, flexibility, and resourcefulness.

  • Ability to work independently, and perform multiple tasks under minimal supervision.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team.

  • Strong organization skills


CW Keller Lead Engineers operate as the primary point of point of contact within Engineering for their respective jobs and facilitate the intake, production, and execution of project-based digital deliverables. Lead Engineers are expected to leverage their extensive project expertise to actively manage dedicated and ad-hoc teams of Engineers on large scale and multi-phase projects through Design Engineering, Fabrication Engineering, Production Engineering, and Fabrication. Lead Engineers drive engineering projects to successful completion through direct interaction with primary project stakeholders.

In bridging multiple departments, Lead Engineers act as the means for maintaining continuity throughout the CWKA project life cycle. Lead Engineers are expected to perform several complimentary roles within the organization and comport themselves in an exemplary way to Project Engineers and other staff.

 

PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Production: Lead teams through comprehensive, digitally-intensive workflows in the production of clear, accurate, and consistent information for approval and fabrication. This includes the ability to create and guide others in building fabrication-level 3D models (static and parametric) and generating project documentation (shop drawings, parts-lists, part files for machining, etc).

  • Communication: Pro-actively communicate with the Director of Engineering, Engineering Team, Project Management, Fabrication Job Captains, Construction Managers and Architects to ensure successful completion of all phases of a project. Meet with Project Management, Project Executives, and Sales staff to review project milestones and assist in the generation of RFI’s and Change Order Collateral.

  • Reliability: Adhere to and outperform strict project timelines.

  • Quality Assurance: Initiate, monitor and maintain project specific quality-control processes including, but not limited to, review of build strategies and fabrication methods based on design intent, review shop drawings for accuracy and constructability, review project files and folders to maintain organizational consistency.

  • Site Visits: Conduct site surveys using manual and digital instrumentation (i.e. laser‐scanner, laser levels and tape measure) for verification of field conditions and installation accuracy.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE

  • Convert laser scans to point clouds, meshes and surface models.

  • Actively mentor Project Engineers in developing technical and organizational skills.

  • Review work of project team members and provide constructive feedback as required.

  • Provide regular feedback to the Director of Engineering on project team performance and present options for improvement where necessary / applicable.

  • Identify and attend related industry events as a representative of CWKA.

Lead Engineer


CNC Operator

The CNC Operator will work in the Mill to produce and deliver quality and accurate products to the shop team. At times, may be required to assist the Shop team members on the Bench as production demands.

Duties and Responsibilities

Project Handoff: Attend handoff meetings related to your assigned projects. Review shop drawings for scope and clarity. Make notations on the shop drawings or production documentation for any information that is discussed during the hand off meeting.

  • Review shop work order for hours budgeted, approved materials and schedule.

  • Understand how the project will phase through the different production departments, Mill equipment and the expectations of the deliverables.

  • Review the greensheet for materials to be used and the status of those items.

  • Understand the milestones established for the project.

  • Review the machining sk drawings and/or models for materials and tooling to be used and compare geometry to the finished parts.

 Production: Produce projects with efficiency, quality and to our standards.

  • Set up and operate woodworking machinery to produce precise parts using the 3 axis & 5 axis CNCs and including the Beam saw, Edge bander, Wide belt sander, Gannomat and Shaper.

  • Open programs at the machine, review programs for errors and material size.

    • Review provided SK’s to ensure correct tooling is called out

    • Call out errors in the programs, operations, tooling or materials to the CNC Coordinator so they can address.

  • Stage material to load as efficiently as possible

  • Inspect parts for quality and finish.

  • Understand proper tooling set up, measuring, and calibration.

    • Understand what tooling is available and notify Mill Captain if tooling breaks, needs sharpening, or needs to be ordered.

    • Use calipers, depth gauges, tape measures, etc. to verify raw materials as well as finish parts for dimensional accuracy.

  • Follow machine established guidelines to insert and safely secure tooling

    • Check tool holders, collets, and collet nuts for wear or damage

    • Keep tool holders and related parts clean and free from resin build up

    • Learn to manually run tool measuring programs to verify tool length and diameter

    • Understand how to run the routine to automatically measure tool length and diameter

    • Understand CWKA’s tool numbering system

    • When previously undefined tooling is added be sure to inform the CNC Coordinator and he will update the MasterCAM Tool Library

    • Willingness to perform trouble shooting on machine, work with the Mill Captain, CNC Coordinator and tech support to identify problems and perform repairs.

    • Maintain machine according to maintenance schedule established by the Mill Captain and Manufacturers guidelines – See Mill Captain for information.

  • Woodworking Techniques

    • Understand operational order of milling (cross cut before ripping, etc.)

    • Develop an understanding as to how different materials machine.  (I.E. Solid surface, hardwoods, softwoods, composite materials) Mill Captain will provide guidance

    • Document and report lessons learned for future reference

  • Understand the equipment’s capabilities and how to efficiently produce product.

Safety:  Be aware of all moving parts of the machine and aware of others in the area.

  • Keep work area clean and free of debris

  • Wear eye and ear protection at all times

Communication: Keep an open dialogue with all team members.

  • Review and check deliverables for consistency and quality. Discuss expectations with others, acknowledge when a task is done correctly and determine if something is not up to our standards and bring to the attention of the manager.

Overall: Keep a positive attitude even when things do not go as planned.

  • Quality control check all product on the project that you are working on through all processes in the Mill.

  • Prepare machined goods for delivery to the shop. Ensure that parts are clearly labeled, organized and verified for accuracy.

  • Assist in the staging of product to be machined based on the mill schedule.

  • Assist in training of operators on all equipment.

  • Mentor new employees that are assigned as your on-boarding teammate.

  • Keep the machining logs, run times, tool wear, offsets and any additional information deemed necessary.  Fill in the machine run logs for data recording.

CNC Programmer


Cabinetmaker

 

CW Keller has an open position for a cabinetmaker in our architectural millwork shop. This position reports to the shop supervisor.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO

  • General and advanced work in the building process of custom cabinetmaking and architectural millwork.

  • Set-up and safe operation of woodworking tools and machinery

  • Preparing work to enter the finish area when needed

  • Set-up and safe operation of finishing tools and machinery

  • Providing support to Job Captain to meet project deadlines

  • Maintaining a safe working environment


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma/GED

  • Read & Speak English

  • Minimum 5 yrs. hands-on experience in a millwork shop

  • Advance knowledge of cabinetmaking, custom woodworking, architectural millwork manufacturing

  • Experience working with solid surface material is a plus

  • Experience in Form building a plus

  • Able to construct a variety of architectural fixtures within a 1/32”.

  • Ability to read and build from shop drawings

  • Ability to work overtime as needed

  • Make common sense decisions

  • Work independently, as well as, part of a team

  • Follow verbal and written instructions

  • Have a positive attitude and a good work ethic

  • Abide by safety procedures as required by employer and OSHA

  • Color matching to client's specifications using dyes, stains, or tinted lacquers.
